Data Mail Merges for Office UsersData/Mail Merges for Microsoft Office Users

Planning a mass mailing?  Or, do you struggle with updating documents, proposals, or contracts for individual clients?  Maybe you're hosting an event where you'll need name tags, certificates, or other pieces specific to individuals?

If so, this is the course for you!  Here you will learn how to create data merges that can be used for mass mailings such as letters, mailing labels, postcards, creating reports, and creating flyers.  You'll learn about data sources, and how they need to be structured so that they can be merged with another document.  If you have existing data that is not structured properly, we can show you how to restructure it quickly and effectively.

During the lab, we'll focus on your specific need, so be sure to bring your current project(s) so that lab time will be spent on your work!

Time: 1 hour instruction, 3 hour lab

Prerequisite: Participants must understand the basics of working Microsoft Word.

Cost:  $199

Facilitators: Michelle Jwanouskos, Judy Schaefer

Creating Document Templates in Microsoft Word

If you struggle with form or letter consistency throughout your company, or, you need a better process for collecting information, Word Templates might be the answer.  Or maybe you just need a letter template that includes the standard opening and closing paragraphs.

This class explains what Word Templates are and how they can be used.  For example, to populate entire contracts avoiding repetitious input; create consistency with Form Management by locking everything but the form fields...preventing users from changing important verbiage; or create surveys or quizzes and streamline processes.

Whatever your need, we recommend that you bring as much 'verbiage', in electronic form, with you.  This will reduce the amount of lab time you'll need as you could copy/paste information rather then spend time writing or typing your content.

Time: 2 hours instruction, 4 hour lab

Prerequisite: Participants must understand the basics of working Microsoft Word.

Creating a PowerPoint Presentation

Do you need to create a slideshow for your next presentation?  Whether you need one that runs automatically at a tradeshow booth, kiosk, or open house; or a presentation for a business meeting or training session, this class will help you understand the fundamentals of PowerPoint as well as give you tips on presentation best practices.

You'll learn how to create slides, apply design templates, use font styles for consistency, add graphics or screen shots, and understand animated slide transitions.  You'll also receive tips on what makes a more effective presentation.

This course will primarily be lab-based.  We'll begin with some common components, and then students will continue building their own presentation.  Users who pick up on the basics quickly will also be shown more advanced features (e.g., page animation, adding page or www hyperlinks, org charts, etc.)  Whatever the need, the instructors will be able to assist.

Creating High-Impact Presentations

Do you want a powerful, exciting presentation that 'makes you stand out from the rest'?  Or maybe one that helps 'close the deal'?  Too often we see presentations that are one slide of text after another.  Or lists of bulleted items.  Many times, we see the presenter reading their slides to the audience, using it more as a teleprompter.

In this course, we'll share our philosophy on creating effective, high-impact presentations that not only get you noticed, but will be remembered.  Then, we'll help you transform one of yours into a powerful, high-impact presentation.

Time: 1 hour instruction, 4 hour lab

Prerequisite: Participants must understand the basics of working with Microsoft PowerPoint

Cost:  $199

Web Site Planning -
Discovery & Definition

If you have a web site, is it meeting your needs?  If you don't have a web site, do you know where to start?  Creating a website is much more than publishing your hard-copy brochure.

In this session, you'll understand the importance of the first two website development phases - Discovery, and Definition.  In Discovery, you'll determine why you need a site and its primary purpose (e.g. Is it to make money?  Save money?  Provide information?  Etc.)  It is also critical to identify and understand the needs of your audience as this helps you not only determine the content, but also to determine how the site is built.

During the lab, attendees will complete a checklist of sorts to begin the web site development process.  In addition, instructors will be on-hand to answer any questions, and offer helpful suggestions to help make your site more effective.

Time: 30 minute discussion, 2 hour lab

Prerequisite: None

Cost:  $129

Facilitators: Michelle Jwanouskos, Judy Schaefer

The first hour includes web site basics (e.g., creating pages, adding graphics or other design components, understanding how graphics function on an HTML page, and adding hyperlinks, etc.)  You'll also learn some fundamental web design rules to make your site more user-friendly to visitors and search engine spiders (the programs sent out to gather site information.)

When you leave, you will have a simple web site ready to publish.

Microsoft Tips & Tricks

They say we only use 10% of our brains; unfortunately, the same goes for our computer programs.  Microsoft has so many time-saving features built-in to their programs, that unless you have the time to research and know what you're looking for, you may never know.

In this class you'll learn about quick keys, styles, the Work menu, Format Painter, AutoText, and auto lists.  If you constantly change the margins and/or font settings to fit your stationary, we'll show you how to modify the standard template so you won't have to do this anymore.  Create your own quick keys to commonly used functions, and more.

Time: 2 - 3 hour hands-on session

Prerequisite: None

Cost:  $99
